Meet Our EC Booklet
Elimination Communication is a natural parenting option for families to potty their baby from birth rather than relying solely on nappies. Babies have been telling us about their need to ‘go’ since the start of time, and the practice of EC is responding to these signals, baby's natural timing, and your intuition - just like you would sense they are hungry or tired or know that it is bedtime. You then physically respond by holding them in an EC-specific hold or helping them sit on a potty. You give them a cue in return that it’s okay to go. Your baby’s pees and poops are then captured in a receptacle. It is for babies aged 0 to 18 months.
This guide covers everything you need to get started practicing Elimination Communication with your little one! To complement this guide, you can find further info, troubleshooting, and a supportive community in our blog and support community.

The booklet gives an all-round view of EC as a technique and is perfect for beginners. It is also useful if you are practising EC but still are confused about some of the processes, want more insight, or are troubleshooting.
Please remember that there is also online support in our FB Group ‘Sustainable Babies In NZ’ for any specific issues that you are coming across that aren’t covered in the booklet. -
We think it’s a really unique gift and would recommend giving the Booklet over something more physical like the Top Hat Potty. The booklet is a great way to introduce someone to the topic without any expectation on their parenting style or making them feel like they have to do EC - it gives them the information and they can take it from there

When designing the topics, layout, and graphics in the booklet we tried our best to give a solid foundation to the techniques and theory of elimination communication. It is such as big topic with lots of information, I found it hard to get a clear and concise summary when I was learning about it before our little boy was born. This is the probem I wanted to solve for parents that are completely new to EC.
Since the process varies wildly from child to child (even parents that have done EC with multiple children have said how different each baby was!) we can’t guarantee that you will find all the answers in the booklet but that is why we have online support for all those unique little things that will come up.

We cover this in the booklet too - there are so many. You might be able to say see-ya to nappy rash, wash or buy fewer nappies, and EC has also been peer reviewed studied to reduce colic - it’s all in the booklet!
You could have an experience like us where we only cleaned about 50 poopy nappies in two years, our boy was out of day time nappies by 1 year old, and fully toilet trained well before 2. Or your experience could be entirely different - it depends on how well the techniques gel with you, your family, your lifestyle and, of course, your gorgeous baby!
At the very least, you will understand some of your babies signals and be able to help them do a full elimination by using the EC holds - even if it is in a nappy (doing a full poop lying down can’t be easy and doesn’t properly open the colon for a full elimination).
